WHAT
HAS TRUTH
TO DO WITH
LIFE?
EVERYTHING.
Regardless of how concerns,
worries, or problems are experienced in our lives, there is something that
goes much deeper.
There are times when some
outward changes can make a difference. But more often, problems or
situations in our lives cannot be solved by trying harder. Nor can they be
made to disappear by ignoring them, quickly forgiving, angry confrontation,
or even becoming more religious.
When truth impacts our
lives, so does freedom. We no longer live under the shadow of all that
weighs on us now. When we open our soul, with all its sin, pain, guilt and
sorrow, to God’s truth, we can find forgiveness and healing. We live in
freedom - to become as He intended.
WHEN SHOULD SOMEONE SEE
A COUNSELLOR?
¨
sometimes
there isn’t a known specific ‘problem’ but just a deep sense that something
isn’t ‘right’ within. You may feel the burden of depression, or
anxiety might press in on you.
¨
sometimes there
is a need to just to be able to talk through the things you are not able to
deal with alone. Addictions,
obsessions,
uncontrollable anger, and compulsions can rob you of life.
¨
sometimes
problems and concerns in your life keep you from really being close to
others. Family dysfunctions, marital problems, or
parenting difficulties can cause barriers.
¨
sometimes a loss,
crisis, or traumatic experience becomes too much to bear. The need to
grieve, recover from divorce, or to deal with trauma such as
acquaintance rape, abuse, battering, or a troubled past which
prevents peace and joy in your life today.
¨
or, there may be
other distressing factors - unhealthy eating patterns, dependencies,
spiritual concerns, stress, even perfectionism.
Whatever it is, we at the
truth
for
life
counselling
centre
are committed to
guiding you toward healing, restoration and life!

Some
practical concerns
you may have might include:
COMMITMENT
- The
counselling relationship is evaluated on an on-going basis because
adequately dealing with your issues is central. The number of sessions you
could commit yourself to is your choice. Each session is 60 minutes in
length, and we would usually meet once a week. Sessions are arranged
according to the needs of the client.
COST
- This is determined on a
sliding scale based on financial status. The minimum fee is $55.00 up to a
maximum of $85.00. Payment is received prior to each visit and can be
paid by cash or cheque. Receipts are issued upon payment. Varying factors
in every individual situation are considered. Subsidies through churches
and organizations are available. EAP and some mental health plans approved.
CONSULTATION
- The nature
of your problem need not be discussed in your initial call. You will not be
asked to volunteer any information you would rather not share at that point.
CONFIDENTIALITY
- All sessions
and files are strictly confidential. Consultation with other professionals
with whom you have or may have had some contact is done only with your
written consent.
CERTIFICATION
-
All tlc counsellors are certified with an approved professional
association to ensure ongoing training and professional accountability.
IF I SEE A CHRISTIAN COUNSELLOR, WON’T I GET GOD AND THE BIBLE AS PAT
ANSWERS TO ALL MY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS?
It is not our experience
that God’s Word ever gives ‘pat answers’. Throughout its pages the people
involved are understood and taken seriously. It seems God never forces
anyone to accept simple solutions in a complex world - both that of the
world around us and that of the world within. Having created us, He knows
us, and wants to bring us closer to knowing Him and ourselves more deeply.
This involves bringing us healing, but never as a band-aid, or in the form
of glib religious rhetoric. Whether this is your belief or not, your
perspective will be respected.
WHY SEE A COUNSELLOR?
You are not alone in your
struggles. At times we all need help. And help is available. Counselling
is designed to uncover the roots of the problems in our lives. Only then
can the symptoms be addressed. Christian counselling seeks to unravel our
real-life dilemmas and bring healing and wholeness with the Biblical
response. As we allow God to touch us and become more deeply involved in
relationship with us, we discover Him in new and real ways. We then are not
only able to grow in our awareness of who we are, but to also experience
life and relationships in deeper, fuller, ways.

follows an all-encompassing approach to counselling. This involves caring
for each person in a way that addresses their emotional, mental, spiritual,
and physical concerns. If medication or other needs are necessary in order
to adequately deal with problems, there is no hesitation to solicit the
expertise of other professionals.
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
REMEMBER:
Seeing a counsellor is a
step in making a decision to deal constructively with your life. It is
always a choice and the choice is always yours. |
